Notes

Talk for Thursday

Open with the problem: every meeting starts with someone hunting for the right window.

Then the fix, live.

Poofed

3 apps hidden · Muted · Do Not Disturb on

One shortcut hides every other app, mutes your Mac and turns on Do Not Disturb. Press it again and it all comes back exactly as it was.

Press it. Poof.

Works from any app, even a full-screen one. Change the keys in Settings whenever you like.

How it works

Press ⌃⌥⌘P.

Every app except the one you're using hides. Sound mutes. Do Not Disturb turns on. All before your call connects.

Then check the receipt.

Click the cloud in the menu bar. Poof lists exactly what it hid and changed, and what it left alone.

Press it again.

Everything comes back as it was. Apps you'd hidden yourself stay hidden, and a Mac that was already muted stays muted.

Questions

Does it need special permissions?

No. Poof never asks for Accessibility, Screen Recording or Full Disk Access. macOS has no public way for apps to switch Focus, so Poof uses a shortcut that you add to the Shortcuts app with one click.

What if my Mac was already muted?

Then it stays muted. Poof only undoes what it changed, and only if it's still the way Poof left it. The same goes for a Focus you'd already turned on.

What if I open an app while poofed?

It stays open. Poof won't hide it again when you press the shortcut, and the message after Unpoof tells you it was already open.

What if Poof quits while poofed?

The next time it opens, it puts everything back first. Quitting from the menu does the same before it closes.

Can I see what it hid?

Yes. While poofed, Poof's menu lists every app it hid, with what it muted or turned on. Click an app to bring back just that one.

Which Macs does it run on?

Macs running macOS 26 or 27. Poof lives in the menu bar and has no Dock icon.

Is it a subscription?

No. It's $9, once, after a 14-day free trial. One license covers all your own Macs and every 1.x update.

When can I get it?

Soon. Poof is finished and being tested on macOS 26 and 27. This page will have the download the day it's ready.
